Lowepro Classified Sling 180 aw - Camera Bag Review

After a long search and research for the perfect DSLR/Laptop/Tripod bag for me. I've seen actual bags and my alternative to the Lowepro Classified Sling 180 aw was the Tamrac Aero 85.

Before I proceed, here are the specs from the Lowepro website:

Interior:
9.3 x 4.4 x 12.6 in.
23.5 x 12 x 32 cm
Exterior:
10.6 x 8.9 x 16.5 in.
27 x 22.5 x 42 cm

Fits:
DSLR with standard zoom lens attached; 1-2 extra lenses (up to 70-200mm f/2.8) or flash; accessories; personal gear; 7-9” netbook in front pocket.
Note: This bag meets most airline carry-on size requirements.

Notice the cool security feature? The zipper to access the inside of the bag cannot be opened. :)

Right view - Tripod holder tucked inside. (below the orange tripod icon)

Left side of the bag where the main pocket can be accessed.

memory card pockets - notice the "flappable" memory card icon? cool!

This is where the All-Weather raincoat is hidden :)

You can also pick it up like an ordinary bag! Check out the bag handle...

Huge capacity!

Top portion of the drawer - That's my ENL3e battery

My ENL3e battery plus my Nokia e63

Top view - with my lenspen visible.

Additional pocket on the flap.

What's this for? I don't really know..

The laptop slot in front. According to Lowepro, it can only fit 8-9" netbooks. According to my test, my 12" laptop can fit! coooool!!! (I'm pretty sure laptops bigger than 12" won't fit)

Bottom part of the bag.

Brand and model name tag

The cool zipper protection lock :)

You can attach Slip lock cases (where the Lowepro logo is located). Here are several sliplock optional accessories you can purchase.

To tell you the truth, every single feature I can think of at the time of not knowing the feature exists is in this bag!! I'm very impressed and contented. Now.. I'm going to take this bag to my trip this weekend and test it some more. Follow-up review to uhm, follow.

(While researching, this was the only other review for the Lowepro Classified Sling 180 aw I found)

  1. Thanks for the review. The photographs were very useful, this has helped give a realistic idea of what the bag can hold.

Its good to know that it can accommodate laptop's up to 12"

  2. Yes. That's the max it can hold though. My laptop is a Twinhead H12. Do check out the dimensions to know if your 12" laptop can fit too.

    No problem. :)

  6. Hi

Would a Macbook Pro 13" fit in one of these? According to dimensions of both items.......it seems it will fit, but not sure how tight it will be if possible.

I bought the 220 AW and I feel like it is a bit too big to be carrying around when travelling.......which is my main purpose for buying it, and now wondering if i should downsize to 180 AW......if the macbook can fit, I will.

    Thanks

  7. Hi Allen,

I'm not that sure since I haven't tried yet as I don't own a MBPro 13". I plan to buy soon though.

From my estimates, I think that it would fit but it's gonna be very tight.

  8. Hello, I read your review after the one you quoted, thank you for those very nice pictures of the bag. :)

As I asked the other blogger, "do you think the internal size would let you place two bodies (two k100d actually) one next to the other, ready to shoot, with standard lenses attached ?"

I hesitate between the 180 and 220 because of this creteria, although I think the 220 will look bulkier and less discrete in an urban environment.
I plan on having one body with telephoto attached and another with a wide angle lens attached.

Thanks again for your review. :)

  9. btw - the arrow design on the back is to show you that as long as you put the bag on either shoulder from left to right, you can wear the sling on either shoulder and the access pocket will always be facing up. try it! it was designed to be wearable on either shoulder...but maybe LP decided it was too difficult to communicate that feature and/or it wasn't really as important as all the other features...

  10. Chef Tonio,
I have the same bag, My husband gave this Lowepro bag to me last month. And I must say that it really gives the protection your camera needs. I'm just curious, is there any bag better than this? The larger ones that can accommodate maybe 4-5 lenses. I've seen one from http://www.dslrbagstore.com/. Kata kd dr-467? Is this a good bag? any suggestions. BTW, very useful, informative blog. Thanks!
